crayon on fabric

Blue_2 too silly to have a tutorial for crayon staining.  its that simple.
draw. short strokes away from you while holding the fabric works best.  its logical that more crayon gives more color.
wait. leave it on for a day or so. stains set over time.
Blue_3

iron. between paper napkins. from the back side. most of the color will come off on the front side.
iron again. with out the back napkin. ( always apply pressure and move back and forth.
iron again with out napkin from the front

Blue_5_1 wash. with soap. iron dry. and stitch maybe.

i can give advice, but it is always best to make decisions by experiencing things first hand.  crayon is a nice alternative because it yields a rustic fresh and soft  result. it is easy to play with it.  TIP you can go over the same area many times repeating the steps.  you can even go over existing stitching etc.   just play!!! after all that is what crayons are for.

Dirty_the ps- TIP it can also be a sub for tea staining.....

what sort of crayons?
fabric crayons right?

nope, just regular old crayons. crayola, i used the left overs from my son's art bin.

How could I have lived so long and not known about this.

A universe of possibilities has just opened up for me.

I can't BELIEVE I have no crayons in the house.

yes, there must be some catch, something i missed.....just too easy. when you find the glitch let me know. :-)

Thanks for the tutorial :). Also thanks for suggesting I look at glennisd at flickr. More inspiration...

my head is spinning looking at your letters and work, it is realy so magical. wow!! im amazed!

Ah wow, thankyou for this.

hey maureen, tks, glennis does some great dyeing, i have been inspired to try some more myself, just haven't found the time.

tks all for the great responses, more on crayon staining later....just learned some new things!

Oh I am all over this! I recently found a whole plastic bin full of my kid's life-time collection of crayons and thought "what next for them". Now I know :)

Thanks for the idea jude, this should prove to be fun AND something of mine I can do with my son! :)

bina, thanks for the comment, this is fun with kids, my mom did it with her nursery school class and they really enjoyed it.
