it seems i might be able to communicate something through cloth making. i hope so. this blog is a personal journey into gift giving and story cloth. one step at a time. and diversions along the way.

patchwork rainbow

Rainbow_block sometimes the stylization of an image totally has to do with the medium in which you work.

there is an interesting post over at ragged cloth cafe....

personally i think the things that comfort you are learned. taught or experienced. and ultimately  remembered and therefore familiar. and why you choose certain forms of visual representation, well it has a lot with what you are comfortable with but it has a lot to do with the limitations of your technique.

some things seem universally beautiful or pleasing. it could be because there are certain things that are common to our experience. this is a comforting thought.

simply. spectacular.

i am going to copy that idea, probably today!

still mesmerized looking at it. The links yield wonderful reading, too.

Interesting link. Yes I do think what we make does have a lot to do with what we are. I "don't do" traditional. I love playing with brights and batiks and making something out of them that is me.

Interesting link, what the article poses is very sobering. Will have to re read.
Totally agree with your comment on stylization.

neki desu

I like the idea that art things can link people through their natures and that there is a realm without words where you can have a conversation...

have lost all track of time, but i think this was posted yesterday. (wasn't yesterday 4/25?) if so, am so glad you haven't posted anything today cause i so needed a rainbow and talk of things that comfort.

needed it today.

now.

Today I showed my best friend, Jean, your blog. She was totally blown away (as I was)
with you art. Your work is very different than ours. We are both very intrigued with your work with texture, transparent fabrics, altered fabrics, and layering. Thanks for posting your art, it is a joy to see it.

indeed a most interesting (and provocative) post by kate at rcc... it amazes me how there seems to be such a drive to things to our genes.... I appreciate what you have to say (and how you say it)...thanks for the link and the food for thought.

thanks for compliments and for reading my thoughts. i have also realized i left out the restriction of using what is on hand. that making do is also a big element of how you make something. in this case i didn't even have enough of those small colored scraps to do curved piecing. even if i was so inclined.

Yes, I agree with you when you say that some things seem universally beautiful or pleasing. And I find it interesting that often times these things are non-representational. Some things just speak to the soul.

I am still mesmerized by your lovely work, and I'm trying to think about it (and other "what ifs?") as I work on my own projects. Lately -- well, forever -- I've made quilts for other people and they end up looking like textbook examples. But I want to produce something more special, and I look to you for inspiration. If it is as you say (and I agree), that we find comforting what we know, I'm glad I know about your quilts!

a rainbow really is so universally wonderful.
these comments are all beautiful too.
