...after a week of shoveling dirt and back breaking weeding and raking, the garden and is surrounding area is starting to look like someone is caring for it. all the rain has forced us to squeeze a lot of work into a smaller window. it is odd but i notice that since i stopped working i feel more pressured by things that need to be done. maybe because i am too close to them. i need to stand back.
...i picked up 13 moons once again. maybe because it represents a calendar to me. or some kind of planner. although it is a study for coma, it seems to contain some conscious effort to express time. i decided to fill in the remaining double lines with some extremely fine strips of cloth. tearing fabric this thin works best on very lightweight and fine fabric. not too gauzy though or the threads pull right out. and tightly woven silk works the best so far. couched to follow the lines of the drawing it combined with the embroidery to make a great new texture.
... a red thread was added to define the grid between the moons and i started thinking how recording time creates patterns. and how that can be linear or layered, and how the patterns themselves make it easier to remember. i think i convert my perception of time into visual patterns. game boards. pathways. nine patches. multiple exposures. one inch squares. there is a long list. when you work on something for a long time, you can see the patterns emerge one step at a time.
