I suppose my thoughts today are about trust. How much What is Real is about that. How is it that we might come to see clearly? Keep new eyes from becoming clouded? I think it might have a lot with wanting less. Because it is so easy to be manipulated if you want more. And more. And after a while this could become a self manipulation. We might not even be able to trust ourselves. And this cannot be fruitful.
There is give and take in any interaction. There is an assumed balance in this expression. Give and Take. If we see clearly. In today's world, you give and someone else claims it instead of just accepting it as a gift.
I wonder too, today, about social media. Is social media overtaking blogging? Because it makes more easier? Is it too much trouble to visit folks where they live? Maybe we just try to visit too many folks? How much is too much? Are we afraid we will miss something? And as the world is taken over by Facebook and Twitter and Pinterest, yes Pinterest, do we weigh the entertainment factor with the fact that we are being manipulated to want more. And more. To what end? Will we all become curators? We are not getting any of the more, we are helping the BIG RICH to get a lot More. Which in the scheme of give and take, leaves us all with less of the more we seem to be after. Which might be good but we can no longer see clearly through the promise of more.
For those of us trying to make a living by connecting, well, it is important to at least think about how it is. See it for what it is. Try to at least keep it human. Provide some real content.
Does social media redefine community? I think not. It tricks us into dreaming about more. These dreams are not the ones to catch. Really. There's got to be something else.
Even search engines have become paid services. Just like the news only providing stories that are likely to manipulate us according to a designed end, the information highway has become a road to someones idea of somewhere. Probably based on information collected about you and what you might be most likely to buy. Or believe. Better to be there, wander, go there, see, not just believe. This can only happen in a smaller world. A real one.
So in my head. today, I have undone a lot of plans and have imagined a new path. And it feels good.
