a movie, book, or illustrated lecture about the places visited and experiences encountered by a traveler.
Way back, In Small Journeys(available for open viewing through Feel Free)I gathered thoughts around a concept I began calling Loose Pages. (last related post) This is the collection prototype for moving forward with that in cloth form. I will share the contents and stories later. I have also chosen to put my Visual (paper) Journal into this format as well, now calling all of it, officially, Loose Pages. Soon to be published through the Feel Free arena and ultimately in book form, it is also my travel format for stitching and sketching on the road. I did bind the pages together here. In a way that they might be undone. Reordered or whatever. It's a big project aimed at gathering what's scattered around so I might understand my ScatterBrain. And of course openly share my reaction to my own self.
Loose Pages then. Coming soon.
The Real Journal because the journey (path) was (is) not a straight line
The promise is a warmer (than usual) February. Seems like a nice promise. But February here should be cold.
I am thinking about life as we know it. How small that is in the scheme of things. How I will be sixty five this next month.
I guess all I want to do these last few days of January is to close this gap. Seems like such a small thing but really it involves so many things. One of which is to wake up tomorrow to another day.
I added the sunrise. It seems important to this nest of days. I might also sweep the floor. I enjoy that. I remember Mom being very disappointed that she couldn't do that anymore.
I feel like I have been a bit scattered lately. But when I look at this Nest Of Days I feel calm. Sensing the natural order of it all. How I can work with that. Rest in that. How new form springs from it.
I was going to post about yesterday but the sunrise caught me off guard. I had some Cs which are equal to 3 As(the original square)... and a few Hs which are 1/2 squares (A) (that quilt math thing). So I cut one of the moon squares , leaving a bit to fold back and turned an A into an H. And I think I might do a moon-rise as well. I have to shovel a path to the woodpile right now though. Funny how there is always time for a little nine or not so nine patch.
I don't really think in quilt math. It is mostly for explaining. And using stuff up.
I sewed this in the dark almost. Not neat but perfect.
Funny when I look at this I expect the sun to be all the way up when I get back to it.
(back here as a path) I made another, in magic black and white. It seems to keep the old rhythm that rocks me in a new way. Something for in between. In between appearing and disappearing perhaps. It all seems to come down to that.
I look at them together, knowing they are so similar but at the same time, not at all. I see the first as a kind of wandering. Straying. An accidental alignment. The other more of an intentional arrangement. Still, neither is planned in a way to be static. Going and then a sort of staying. Holding. (Note to self: Form is completed by considering it. Or form remains dynamic if it is considered, reconsidered)
Nine for PlaceKeeping then. For Summer's cloth pages. Pictured here a ragged patchwork spread, begun in Small Journeys. There are 38 pages now, loose, a few still blank. The cover needs some work and I will continue work on this through the end of this month. The format pleases me very much. Scrap book #1. Goings and Holdings. 9/2014-9/2015. The travelogue series (small journeys in cloth).
Chilly morning. I considered a small fire. But then not.
