the bears

my bear story is not new, it is a story from a while back, and the original piece, which was published last year around this time in quilting arts magazine, has been hanging on the wall for a while now as part of my personal collection. it is a garden party. a gift giving ceremony. a forest festival. a celebration  in honor of nurturing and creative growth, and mother bear is a proud bear.

the story's theme is one of acceptance and the freedom to grow. each little bear was cut from the same stencil but has begun to evolve  into an individual as mother bear looks over them with approval.   she is also no run of the mill mother bear.  one of my favorite parts is the little bear that is transforming into a butterfly. i love this story.

the simple bear, i call him/her joy,  has grown up very much like mother bear. she had special ears. this one has special eyes. and a very soft heart.

new eyes

new eyes, new story. it's raining, i'm playing. i am intrigued once again with the images we present to children. and redefining cute.

thanks giving

it is a beautiful moody warm day here. my words have returned in smaller form.  and i will eat today.  a bit more than has been usual. ha!  i am feeling thankful today.  thankful for many eyes and the fire inside.

...i think i have a new stitch. the magic eye.

coma and dot diary - holes

today i am thinking about dots as holes. and holes as viewfinders. eyes. and viewfinders as masks. and masks as choices, and the difference between looking  from the inside and from the outside.

and then the  sameness of that when a narrow opening in concerned. and how getting rid of the mask can increase vision from either direction. how real vision is a bigger experience.  a view after all is a limited idea. a point of view is a tiny hole.

i am working on the second long cloth because it has become  coma related. it is about stepping outside oneself and discovering many eyes.

spinning alternatives

... i got side-tracked yesterday....and ended up trying another version of that "face off" howl....still loving velvet and the contrast between its soft changing surface and the hard permanence of the stitch.

this is one of 2  moon offerings. the physical characteristics of the elements here were chosen to depict conflict but also unlikely alliance. the background is cut from an old kimono and is a fabulous printed silk ikat that has a very fine metallic thread woven into it here and there. very old. the fringed velvet is a new gift and a very modern fabric. i am playing with mixing in some wool and also some antique black and whites as both contrast to the rich color and as symbols of some sort of inevitable logic.

it is a very wet and blustery day. i need to dig out my spindle. i think spinning could be a nice way to relax into november. too many things spinning in my head. i need to transfer them into something useful.

that kind of day

still playing with lions. anticipating the full moon. the dot as a heart is a what-if i forgot to mention.
