The magic cloth has become a serpent of days. In the morning it is waiting.
Tere will be no shop update this week, although things will be floating in, I am not planning to release anything until next week. I have decided to celeberate the Moon by looking.
Up early with not a lot to say, except the lamplight looks like moonlight. And the Magic Cloth 2 is on the wall... but not for long.
The nice thing about large cloth is that you can sit under it while you are still stitching it. This morning the Magic Cloth 1 is a shelter from the chill of the studio. I sat under it before lighting the fire. To watch the sun come up. It kept me warm. It is a good cloth.
If you didn't have a warm cloth, this morning would be a good morning to be covered in fur.
I. We. spent a couple of days trying to imagine a world without internet. A life where building a shelter, growing food and staying healthy and occasionally stitching a warm cloth could be enough, everything. I stitched while we chatted away. And the eye that was born by opening a seam just wide enough to see through it gained focus. I placed the eye's center to coincide with the first simple ring, thinking to myself, that a ring of vision starts with an eye. The tiny brown kantha lightly defines the nine patch as a symbol of my beginnings in cloth. The brown thread was salvaged from the hem of an old skirt and dyed with walnut.
Some say dreaming is a waste of time. That dreaming is separate from doing. I think dreaming is part of the natural order of living a life. And when you look back , it seems like a dream anyway. But it wasn't. Sometimes I think a dream is just a way to reorder moments into a story that can make more sense. To see in a new way
Well yes, it is finally VERY cold. And grey. And it is great to have the green still inside, growing. And good too, to watch the days grow longer.
The cloth on the wall is growing too. Patterned by the January brightness, changing as the day turns.
I drew an A today, for no other reason than just, well, it's doodle wednesday.
(Magic Diaries 2 has begun. If you signed up and have not received the access email, check your Pay Pal email or your spam folder. And email me if it is not there. thanks...)
the rain continues. i like the light by the window on dark days. it becomes, more obviously, a gift. i have been sitting with the magic cloth. stitching.
and with the feathers that have gathered, off the wall for the moment, to catch a more natural view of what might become.
and she thinks i don't know what she's been into. looking for birds in the thread nest perhaps?
and a gift from the Man.
...the sense of home can be expressed in such small things. which really aren't small at all.
since this year has been my year for considering points and protrusions, coming off of last year, the year of the square, i have put both into the context of the nine patch and magic... which is always my focus it seems. and as i prepare to officially begin the magic diaries on friday, i have a new personal magic symbol and design focus that i will technically call the extended nine patch. i guess i was asking what if (?) squares could be points. i like it because it uses squares as protrusions from the straight nine patch. it has a center (heart). it is a play on both traditional patchwork as well as a very common tapestry weaving motif, most often seen in american indian rugs. and it reaches out.
sorry folks, the last post was corrupted by typepad so i had to delete it and start over. it should be ok now. how stupid was that? trying to show how easy it is and nothing worked. figures. anyway. i will be posting 3 days a week here to see how that goes. have a nice day.
