i had originally planned to have these faces just sort of pop up out of the fabric as if they could just melt away and disappear at any moment, but the blocks were already sewn and sculpting the faces at this point would stretch the squares out of shape. so i have decided to use my fabric weaving idea in a new way and weave the face into the background of the matching fabric. this way it will be subtle and the concept of the face woven into the green has a nice tone to it. not to mention the texture. the frayed edge on the velvet forms an interesting fluff, like a green cloud. it should be even softer after washing. many tiny backstitches stitches are still required for tacking. so a new form of applique is added to my methods and i will call it "integrated applique".
