i am sewing these in blocks of 9 which is a convenient size for traveling. i added a photo album to my main page that highlights any techniques i use for sewing as a reference for me as well as visitors. anyway almost all the blocks are done. i am varying the last few, still 6" but smaller pieces , maybe a star motif or 2. i mixed in some silk, some flannel and some corduroy, i like to vary the theme. they are all soft and mossy and greenish. i have a thought to poke some holes, small perforations, and let them fray to create some extra texture after washing. a certan level of "decay" is always healthy in a forest. this whole base section should be done in a couple of days. i may keep it separate while i apply some appliques. easier to handle in transit, but the main body of the quilt seems cold without it.
