i am back to this idea after stumbling on it accidentally a while back. i have always had an interest in indigo and have not yet found the time to investigate real indigo resist dyeing. i un-sewed a pair of kenneth cole jeans, to see what variations i could find in the dye from wear and tear along the seams. i am likening this to shibori which can be a stitch resist technique. i thought i could find interesting dye variations that mimic this method (in some twisted way) just by opening up different kinds of seams on indigo garments since they wear so dramatically and are naturally bound in the garment sewing process and undyed over time through the wearing process.
i am amazed with the result and although it is very time consuming to de-construct these garments i will continue to collect examples until i have enough to work with. i plan to put them together some how. and learn from them. i set up a separate photo gallery for these examples as i collect them.
maybe when i have time i will do some research and try doing some real dyeing. i can check out Shibori Girl for some inspiration.
