some stitching commenced on the suns forming on FEVER. i had plans to just work on the suns this weekend.
..
but i became distracted by some crazy what if and i am working on both at the same time just for the sheer contrast between the two. of course neither one of these projects has anything to do with what i should be doing. nope. this is not my laundry.

...diane asked a while back, how do i know when i am finished. i don't. i keep going until i become distracted. that is the way slow cloth is. since i have a lot of stuff hanging around i am always distracted. i move from piece to piece. so just when i thought the fever would end, it was actually beginning. new suns are forming. the fire lives.
i managed to find a use for that velvet eyelet. that extra crayon rubbing . rebirth.

.....it is ikat, and it is a unique blend of cotton and silk. sleek and soft, exotic and home style. the nature of a fabric is something very special to me. on occasion i form a special bond that makes a big difference in my work. this is one of them.
the patterns and colors are amazing.
the loose weave gives the fabric nice softness and and it is easy to layer and stitch. looks like silk, easier to handle.
the first edge went on like a dream. i love how it cuts into the design and forms all kinds of abstract shapes. the leftover triangles from the first fussy cut are being distributed on other edges.(can't waste any of this stuff, oh no!...) i think this overlay method will pull the whole thing together. i love how a final layer can do that.
....to follow this project use the FEVER category or view the flickr group.

...the oldest known rainbow backed fuzzy nutted moon snatcher is returning after a small journey abroad.
....he has a traveling heart and will soon be off again to his new home. he is the keeper of ancient purring blues,
i see this one as a teddy bear in lion's clothing. a recycled soft toy from special pieces of my past and present, many what ifs rolled up into a hug (a wish for good fortune).

...with the season's change..(along with a swirl of unknowns around me), i have decided to focus on wool a bit. my background as a weaver has left me with an unusual stash and after a little what if experiment for CQR yesterday, my curiosity has peaked and i have started a new project. a small one. a test, for now. i haven't done much quilting with wool so i want to try. mostly i want to expand on the idea of combining it freely with other fibers and making a functional cloth/ blanket with warmth in mind. i want to learn more about the nature of it when it is stitched down. the thing i like about wool is the possibility of being able (with the help of a sheep) to produce my own materials. i know how to spin and weave and dye it. and i want to retire and have some sheep. i really can't say i can handle raising cotton or silk worms and make fabric from either of them. sheep maybe.
....i actually already love the texture change from wool to cotton/linen. the center block is all wool, surrounded by cotton and linen patchwork. i accidentally sewed one piece upside down and it had a line drawn on it from an old pattern plan. i will incorporate it somehow.
this one is measuring about 15" square at the moment.
thanks to paula for the link to info on waggas. and another....good starting points for inspiration and information about the history of wool in quilts.

just a scribble and plans to change doodle wednesday into what if wednesday because that is what doodling is . isn't it? recording what might be possible as reminder to ask the question again later, when if time permits, some answering might be in order. a plan to lift off. i think so. have a nice wednesday.

....i am not quite sure why a little break from the internet has changed my outlook on things. it was short. not significant. but freeing somehow. i suppose i just stitched for for the sake of stitching. it took a lifetime or a good part of it to know certain things. to know that when you find the thing you are meant to do, it will not be a surprise and it will not be hard to recognize.
yet... i am still not sure if anyone else will ever really understand how i feel about stitches that show...on purpose... or see the bit of white i left on the edge...on purpose. the idea that the contrast of black and white can be expressed as black and orange.
would anyone get excited when they realized that an ovecast tacking stitch could serve as a spacer for wrapping....?...
...or know that scribbling with rags is my way of letting go...?....
the FEVER has returned and i am screaming with a thread and needle. i will try to catch up on blogs and comments and emails tomorrow.

ikat....is just such a burnin' type of motif. i love how bits of the pattern gets away along the edges. it reminds me of sparks breaking off from the flame of a crackling fire.
....to cover up an ashen edge of fever, i have chosen to fussy cut some ikat flames to reignite the edge. there are also plans to cut through to reveal some smoldering elements beneath.
internet problems are keeping me from answering emails and commenting/ visiting blogs. sorry. it took me 5 tries to make this post.i am just going to sew for a bit and try again later.
