truth and experience

...i have never really used silk thread. probably because i just never knew much about it. these new adventures with silk have really opened up a lot of possibility in my work. not just from an artistic point of view...nope, i also have a few new eyes.

...i am playing with a really special silk thread, soie et . wow.  what do i love about this thread? 

well i love the sheen, i love the smoothness, i love the strength,  and then i love the fact that it is a three ply and it separates easily so i can use one, 2 or 3 strands.  i love that is goes into the needle's eye so easily and doesn't fray at the end.   i love love love the color range, so soft and well blended.  i am amazed at how it glides through the fabric, silk or any other (almost silently!)  and how it makes me want to slow down... 

but most of all, i love that it is everything that i was told it would be.  that it is a product worth buying and it comes with the support and the word of the person who sells it.  i got it through from maggie backman of the silk experience.  and i am so happy to know her and hope to meet her soon.  why?  because she knows what she is talking about, loves silk and her business is motivated by education.  and she values my opinion. isn't that refreshing?  thank you maggie for a wonderful product, a wonderful experience, and the time spent considering what that means.

as time goes on, we must  realize the importance of respect in the scheme of community. how dependent we are each other's  integrity and knowledge... be it in personal life, or in business. it is a shame to see how this has been degraded by greed.  how it seems that , in business in general, the motivation is deceit, hiding information and truth, and tricking the customer into buying, rather than educating the consumer to appreciate quality and relationship.

so today i am thinking about the value of time spent considering... once again, the value in persistent vision...no matter what shape it takes. and trusting in that.

reaching out

...i don't have many words today. there is sunshine and moonshine.

there is silkshine ...and many new eyes. i will just go with it for a while. ...a new season is unfolding. new faces, new stories, new things to learn. new cloth from old cloth.  life re-purposed.  

and i am sure i am not the only one who really likes this.

maybe it's the moon

no sooner does one mood end... another begins.  there is a face in that red fabric. and i swear it emerged after i stitched it down.  so i guess i will just go with it. the moon is silk!  and i will try stitching with some silk thread this time.  i haven't much experience with that. so i will not say much about it yet. but i imagine it is quite dreamy.

sometimes

...sometimes when it is raining outside, it seems to be raining in your heart. but there is magic in a spring rain.  if you just wait a bit. 

...i edged this one in  bit of hand dyed fabric from deb lacativa. deb's hand dyes are like a pick me up. they have energy.  a little bit goes a long way. the ragged fringe on this one just seemed a bit like green grass to me. you know, the kind that bursts forth after spring rain. it redefined the mood of the piece.

it is good to get back to these little moody characters. i feel a series of moody blues coming on. moods are like a natural series. i'm sure you know what i mean.

april showers

...it was a moody day yesterday. but there was magic in the air.

...this morning an earth rainbow is forming. 

...and the garden is coming alive... once again...

...that inside out patchwork idea is growing on me. i added an old leftover patched fragment to the garden. and turned it over. fertile ground. i am expecting some flowers soon.  because it is still raining. and this morning i have new eyes.

whatever

...well i am still a bit inside out.  upside down. spring fever. confusion has taken hold. fog has moved in. whatever.  that's probably why i can't decide if this is a rainbow forming or disappearing.   it is hanging out in some old sky so i suppose it could be be either one. what if it doesn't matter? good enough. 

..it's raining but i am going outside anyway. 

studio sunday

...it's raining. i have started the basic stitch down on the magic cloth. the first stitches are the quiet keepers of overlapping thoughts.

i have applied the 2 upside down nine patches. i am feeling a bit inside out today. so i will make a few more.

one morning in april

...the queen on her magic carpet. the only pile carpet i ever made. maybe it is time to start another. i made this on a loom that was set up outside. and it's definitely an outside day.

...i can't get weaving off my mind really.

...the first outdoor ceremony.... at the shore. to get some wind in cloth.  

the quilt is now a traveling companion.  and i am thinking of using the floating face on the back...

meeting points

...so it just so happened that two moon halves look really neat touching like that.   and i like how all these indigo shades came together. some kind of soft collision.  it just seemed that all this coming together , in some way created an unusual energy burst. a sign that something that was about to become more. becoming more seems to start with touching.

...i am really amazed at what can be produced when thoughts touch.  i tried to express that by something seemingly coming alive at the point of intersection. poof!

it is not always easy to define why things touch you. but, yes, things that touch you encourage you to become more. thank you ladies.
