So, a little giveaway ceremony.

And a bit about the new year. My teaching endeavors will now be listed on this page. The link is in my top menu bar as well as my sidebar so you can check there anytime. As of tomorrow, links to current class blogs will also be moved there, just to de-clutter this blog page.

The Advanced Cloth to Cloth workshop will be released tomorrow. But class will not begin until January 15th.  I am not limiting the size of this class  so there is no rush, you can sign up anytime before the new year.  There will be a course description posted on the Cloth Whispering page and in the shop.  Please read it carefully so you understand the concept of the course before you sign up. Think it over. This workshop is based on lessons  from the first Cloth to Cloth workshop. Please be aware of this if you have not taken the other class, I do not intend to cover the basics of this process again in this new workshop.  I will also be offering the first workshop as a video only option at a reduced price for those who would like to run through the lessons on their own to catch up.

The only other thing I have to say right now is that it is raining here and I have not taken a stitch all day.

anticipating december

Today has begun with a blush of excitement. I love the sudden warmth of a cold weather sunrise.

I went to bed early, so I rose very early. I wonder if the sunrise loves the sudden warmth of an early people rise. The studio looked warm but it was cold, so I lit a fire and prepared a pot of oatmeal with bananas and raisins for the stove. A little grated apple, soy milk, wheatgerm and maple syrup and I was good to go.

Rocky stopped by to say goodnight. And welcomed a late night snack of extra oatmeal. He really liked the banana surprise.

I always notice that on cold mornings, in low light, I unconsciously seem to work with warmer colors. I have a lot of unfinished beasts around here and this one has just developed a sense of self preservation. He has a fire inside.

I will be posting a winner for the giveaway and some news about a few new workshops later today.  But right now I will enjoy the priviledge of a slow start to my day. Always the best way to begin.

a sense of something

 

I am not big on the mainstream holiday thing. But I do like certain aspects of traditional ceremony. I like the simple reminders that simple decorations inspire. Little things hung from mantels and doorways. Those little things that bring memory and a sense of something.  Maybe it is just the sense of continuing, like so many before. Like we will do despite all odds.  Maybe it is to honor that.

I have finished another little piece. Just a fragment was all it was. Just to stitch through the pause of the holiday. Like I do. Like I have done so many times before. And once again, there seems to be a very big story attached to it. One about continuing, and how much that has to do with connecting.

It seems that after spending so many years listening to the moon light, she has begun to develop a new sense of flight. And the music of a night sky has transformed her.  I think evolution is about continuing. And continuing is just the patience and persistence it takes to get a real sense of something.

I am calling this one peace on earth. Because it , peace, might just be the product of having a true sense of all things. And that takes a long time. One of the bells is so old it doesn't ring any more. But I can hear it; I acquired that sense long ago.

I would like to give this one away.  A peace offering. The hat is here, who's in?

simple things

I added jingle bells. I have a warm memory of them. I have a big collection of them from holidays past. These two small cloths hang so well together. The house was made by Mary Stanley. I  love her simple little houses.

a shape's shift

So it is almost December, and the year of the square will move into a year of points and protrusions...which might be also the year of the triangle. 

 

Maybe December will be a shape shift month. By chipping away at the square

I might get to those points i am so interested in.

nothing much on saturday

Nothing much has gone on here the past few days. Thanksgiving was quiet and simple. Mom and me. And the Man who decided to sleep most of the day. And  I am just so focused on those simple days. I am caught in small moments. Trying to find out why I see a kind of beautiful sadness in simple things. Not the kind of sadness that hurts. The kind that contains a sort of numbness. But not the kind of numbness that is unfeeling. The kind that seems to freeze time.  The kind that softens edges.  Maybe just the absense of the harsh frivolity that seems to surround us at this time of year. The kind that comes from the TV and well, just about every kind of media.

I am just doing. Doing little things. Noticing them in isolation. Marveling in that. Wondering whether sharing them changes them somehow. Just wondering.  I think the quality I find in some of the more primitive objects and cloth that I have around me is something to do with that sweet sadness, that numbness. There is some  memory of honest making. Hard to describe really. Perhaps just the making of something humble, from not much really. Just something simple. Motivated by giving. Some little things that might  be enough to express that.

So I am feeling a bit sad today. But it's not the kind to be bothered by. It is the kind I learn from.

cloudy but warmer and a possibility of more stitching

I just noticed how the light of the moon seemed to be embracing the darkness of the tree sillouette. Moving around it. As if i caught them in a dance. A spin.

This snail came all the way from Indonesia.  It was probaly a long trip. I wonder if she is homesick.

This composted sheeting was an accident. I like that kind of old cloth. The real kind.
  A square could be made from smaller squares which are only a product of careful reconstruction.

  She might be wondering  who is this new beast. And so am I. ? .
