with the sudden onset of cool nights and the wind damage from the storm, summer seems to have ended more quickly than expected.
i am making it a habit to be out early in the cool air. it is has a new energy which i crave. as always, it comes in the form of a reminder. some things are slowing down, some are speeding up, some are just going. a while back i decided to experiment with fading, as a way to soften dyes, to uncolor cloth, perhaps even to pattern it. i prepared a few summer bundles which i haven't opened yet. but my thoughts also went again to useful creativity. and so i used a lot of cloth to tie the vegetables this year. and i am harvesting the cloth early this year as some of the plants are ready to rest.
india has some fade experiments going on as well, for her own reasons... and today, as i patiently wait for more wear to work with i am asking why is fading ever a bad thing? where did we learn that?
it is nice that this summer sun has left its mark on these small strips. i found this one to be just a perfect scrap of season for the hurricane cloth which has become some sort of ode to august 2011.
i will work on this one now, through the days that are to come, the warmer ones that remind. the warm autumn days that soften winter's edge.
the rest of my ongoing harvest of cloth will go toward building the big series i call "squares of wear".
initiated way back here.
these will be a more formalized version of 21st century rags.
before i die i plan to do one show, one book, and a few million good deeds.
