As the year comes to a close I want to thank all of you traveling companions for continuing with me, keeping me company in whatever way you have. Thank you for visiting, your humor, your concern, you comments and stories. It all makes my journey here so much richer.
This is the center of the magic cloth 2. The cloth I began in Magic Diaries, among some special friends. Still in process, its center is a ring of stones, perhaps a medicine wheel of sorts. A special heart felt thank you to those of you who volunteered as lab rats as I pulled together this little dream of Diary teaching style. It has really made a difference for me and I certainly couldn't have done it without your support.
With some regrets, I announce that the SEW forum has been closed to the public as of this week. It was a nice idea to open it but in the end, the intimacy of a close community has proved a more useful teaching tool as well as a warmer learning environment. I made this change after slowly considering current students and the nature of the internet and my own focus. Although it may exclude a few folks from looking in, it has opened new opportunity for the ring of vision that gathers there. SEW is now the student forum connected to the Diaries Series. They are seamlessly connected as we continue with our story cloth. A large cloth is like a community in a way. A gathering of scrap, story and intention into some kind of natural order. Over time it can become shelter from the storm. Today I am wrapped in community, appreciating the warmth it provides. And still continuing.
My presence here will be thinner through the holiday (photos mostly and posting the rest of the gathered feathers). I wish you all a peaceful transition.

7: 20 AM
we've a real winter sunrise this AM. and even a bit of ice.
but a warm fire and a big stack of wood as well. we are lucky. a note to self, not to forget that.
snow cloth. hoping for snow. but not too much.
some can weather a storm.
probably depends how strong your heart is.
8:03 AM
even then, there is a fine line that holds us. i suppose today i am thinking about warm and cold, and rings again, but after a little thinking i am realizing that the warm and cold is not just about temperature.
and home. that is such a big subject for consideration.
7:44 PM
it took me hours to create the softness that i wanted in this face . i wanted something caring and worn. something safe. a sense of age and perhaps weariness but not without satisfaction. something simple and familiar.
i like the honesty that the tattered cloth adds.
i think i'm done.
i feel myself winding down, considering a break from here until after the holiday. i will stitch a few gifts, and spend time transitioning into Magic Diaries part 2. I will be around, but with less to say. I've said so much already.
i wonder if i will still be blogging when my hair has turned white.
santa cloth continued here.

this piece is small. but it seems bigger, that's how i see it today.

i have added Debra Price's blog, Artisun to the sidebar list titled Tell the Children the Truth. Debra organized a teacher's blog, showing the work of her students. I think this is such a great idea... a classroom is like a ring of vision isn't it? Nice to see teaching and learning spinning out there in this big space of an internet.
If you are a teacher and have organized a blog focused around your students creative efforts, and would like to be listed here, please let me know.
I am thinking today that perhaps the ring might be a great place to start in putting all my magic feathers together. Today a ring could be a big hug-like thing.
( Debra and class donated feathers 409-422 and they floated over here in October)
thinking about rings in perspective.
and looking back at the year of the dot. to understand the difference. because the ring goes way back.

as a note, the cloth whispering page has become a monthly newsletter to keep you updated with my teaching and shop schedule. there is a link in the upper right hand corner of this blog.

might be the memory of a movement. especially as we imagine or remember it.
and there you have it, a ring of Was.
shape is is often the result of continuing. the record of a path in any direction. captured for the moment.
does that make shape a sort of timekeeper?
could this make the creative act a kind of time travel? simply the evolving shape of persistence without permanent boundary?
please note, that i often post more than once a day, but from now on i will post diary style. adding to the same post as the day progresses. and so if you are accessing my posts through a reader, you will miss the end of my day. unless of course i have nothing left to say. the reason for this is layered but partly because the calendar feature of typepad is currently stupid as all things tend to be (stupid) now and then. let's celebrate that.
i don't think it matters.
Flash!
the SEW blog is now password protected. it will be unavailable over the weekend while i do some maintenance. today, i left the house before letting you know my plans, so i allowed access temporarily. but now it is closed till Monday. Thanks for your patience..xx

i stitched a ring here today. to define some sort of edge as a result of touching, connecting the stones.
geez. any shape is a ring. right? not limited to a circle.

you are probably on
someone else's.
