The warm weather is holding. So odd to be outside in short sleeves in March. I have my indigo vats going inside for now because nights are still cold. The radiant heat in the floor seems to be a real plus. The vats are happy. Thanks to Glennis, I am understanding them a bit more. And the walnut pot has been outside all winter and never seems to give up. I guess this will be the year of brown and blue.... so it goes. I like dyeing thin cloth. How you can see the weave when the light comes through. I need some thin window coverings for the warmer season. A bit of shade, but not too much. I figure I will stitch a lot of my thin dye samples together as window coverings, just to look through them for a while. I can cut them up later. There is a lot of thin cloth here. Because I have always been on the lookout for it. And then, I am weaving some too. Just small pieces. Using some very thin cotton linen yarn leftover from my textile industry days... trying to use it up before it ages too much. Or I do. It is harder to weave thin cloth, to get an even beat. Dense cloth you can really slam together, but thin cloth, you have to leave space, develop restraint. I use a little rocking dance, the distance of my leaning back as I pull the beater regulates the space rather than just judging how hard to press against the web. It works much better for me. The only handwoven cloth here is the second ring with the square dobby weave. When I find some extra time... ha... I will try a small piece of new cloth that makes those squares more like nine patches. Right?

8:00 AM Yesterday, while mom looked at old photos and told me stories of when she was a child, I spent about two and a half hours stitching nine scraps of old cloth together and marking the places where they met. Just for the hell of it. Now I am just looking. Remembering. And looking forward to the day. It is these kinds of things that give me the most pleasure lately.
The scraps had no particular association with one another. Now they seem to. And knowing cloth, and wear, I bet the meeting points will last longer than the body of the scraps themselves. A few bits held by a thread, a knot of chance meeting. Held by a thread for a moment or longer. A simple story.

Across moons series, a sketch.
And another.
" The day was counting up its birds and never got the answer right."
Author unknown.
I would have liked to have known that person.
Maybe I published this here before.
I can't remember any more.
And this is cool

I'm in the blue. Under the gentle guidance of the The Blue Fairy. Learning to layer the blues. I have 3 types of vats going.
And as always, my samples are gathering in groups of nine. Continuing my thoughts from way back here. Color keepers. The green was dyed over pomegranate.
And this is a beautiful post.

There are more thoughts of sympathetic evolution today. How we might change ourselves, willingly. To keep natural order on purpose. What if we become the missing piece?. By giving up a bit of ourselves. Imagine that. I like to imagine that. Becoming more by needing less. Making a difference could be that simple really.

Sometimes you just do it. Without a big complicated "to do" attached to it. I think just a little simple play has a big use.
