Novemeber. So far into it already.
Cloudy skies. Expecting snow and the big chill that means a smaller life for a while. Some last minute chores today.
A little patch of weather, of vision, of hope, of clarity. Oh, a little something that seemed right. Right here yesterday.
Not forgetting that it might be different today. This nine patch is spaced out. I both relate and find beauty in that today.
I will be adding a link to Small Journeys here later today. Tomorrow. Right now I have to be out and about before the bad weather moves in.

Dark. Rain. BIG wind. What a contrast to yesterday. We had coffee at 4 AM.
But it is a cozy dark. A light rhythmic rain. A warm wind. A dark cozy day. It is like a blanket.
Furniture got moved today. The sewing chair is by the window and and I will use the studio through the winter even if I have to sit under many quilts to keep warm. So far the wood supply looks good.
At about 8:02 AM I looked up and saw this and thought...life is a beautiful blur.
10:40 AM
I started stitching. Still stitching. A small journey in process.

The sun will be out. And it will border on comfortable today. We have decided to let the forest move back in on this side of the house. We cut a lot back over the years, to make more space. Space for what (?) is the question now. The wildlife here is running out of wild space. Let this be a sanctuary then.
Just a patch of cold sunlight for this morning... Funny thing, this small journey idea, it has me thinking much smaller. In a new way. Like a short walk in any direction and then a short walk back. Any day can hold newness, Adventure. I almost think small will be bigger than I imagined. It might fill winter with joyous moments. I might have to post more than once a day instead of less than imagined. Better not to project into the future. Things change. Like the weather.
Evening.

I changed the curtains in the studio to thin white linen. I like the way they seem a bit like fog. I feel Thin lately. My thoughts are diluted by some sort of calm that has overtaken me. Maybe it is the cold. The feeling of hibernation that is forming. But I think it is something else. My thoughts seem more transparent. I find layers of other thoughts showing though. It is a bit confusing. Dream like at first but then just something that slows me.
There is a prism hanging there, hard to see.
And it did this:
And I hung around for the longest while, doing this:
I wonder, is it that I have slowed...enough to let my time be filled with these things?
To enjoy them as much as anything really.
To let this make my day enough?

How one thing might become another on a not so cold Thursday.
I call this spinning square configuration the Coma effect. It has a long history as an evolving personal symbol. It is about shift. Today it was a coma that inspired a new version. This will be a larger cloth even though it is just a doodle right now.
The original Coma cloth, by the way has come down from the wall and is on the bed in the loft. It is home and that is that. I hope to wear it out. It is a blanket and nothing more. Or less. The Magic Cloths will join it soon enough. (Coma on Flickr)

Early cold descending.
The little leaf sampler I was calling Into November has quickly become Into December. That's how it can go. It is good to have a stash of weather language to work with if you want to tell the story.
So far only a few stray snowflakes here. I could only catch them on cloth.
The oaks are bared, but the maple leaves are still hanging on.
I'm beating the dust out of the rugs today. The wind is blowing toward my grouchy neighbor.
Later? A maybe map.

Last night it rained all night.
The roof leaked.
The sleep loft was very warm. That is not where the leak is.
There was no moon.
But that depends on your point of view. One more day of reconfiguring a work/video space for the cold months. And I will be back to cloth and talking about what I've been doing.
It is cold.
No moon has proved handy.
This one was started a while ago (I recently added a patch of rain...)and has been my travel companion during a few road trips. I will call it going through November. And take some better pictures later. It was so dark yesterday, but the rain is gone and we are left with a big cold wind. And an early winter.
And now the next morning...
I think the stray cat series has evolved into the Through Adventures in a way. I can so identify with the stray. I will make a bigger one for each month. There is more room to stray. Like this which is about 10" x 12" so far. I am using them to record like a calendar and also to explore. New techniques. Which how it all starts. Just Wondering. And then seeing how that might mean something later.
