So I did start with 9. Again.
But really, freeing the Nine Patch from convention (giving it new life)started long ago for me. Perhaps just that idea that you can get anywhere from anywhere by finding A Way. Not THE WAY. Just A WAY.
So the free approach to the seaming, and shift from matching seams and thread, the open and untrimmed edges. A start.
Then, the tilt, the leaning , the shift in placement of alignment with the frame of reference (I have often referred to that as the coma effect)... this gives a sense of spin and movement. Begins to alter center. And with it the sense of what we know for sure.
A small step taken today, but it is a beginning. May be I will shift it a bit more to the left. Let part of it blur part of the frame of reference. Give it a bit of Bigger Than That. In the beginning there was Nine. And then a sense of Turbulence. I like the word turbulence used as some sort of state of confusion.
Anyway. Change. If only in point of view. This is enough for today for me.
Note to self: What if I had already stitched it down the expected way? And then changed my mind. I could rip out the stitches yes. But no, I think at this point, I might have cut it out, mended the hole and then placed it back, shifted. Leaving the evidence of the first move as another frame of reference. Leave the story of the going in the cloth. Let the layering of thought begin. Design Mending.
This piece continued from here.
In response to Velma's comment, there was a link way back, here... I have put the video here again.
