A New Basket

This piece was pictured at the bottom of this post, before stitching.

The base was double cloth woven.

The Circle was made using this method. (which I don't use anymore, choosing a more eco-friendly method of resist dyeing) It was a bit tricky with the size and the ragged woven edges. I did a bit of design mending.

It's a dream catcher.

I am not done yet.

With anything.

In any way.

 

 

Patch

There will be no sunshine today.

I saved some from yesterday.

This is the avocado I started from a pit last year. I didn't think it would make it. But it is fine and strong. It needs a bigger pot.

As I began mending last night I took a bit of time to remember how the Cat Quilt came together (still considering a rename). My quilt math was based on 1,2,3. One inch, 2 inch and 3" squares initially.  Which expanded into 6", 12" and 18" block sizes. I realize I will not try to restore this in terms of the design. Instead I will use the process to remember and record. And apply what I have learned. Which is really how I have changed.

A big quilt is a timekeeper.

I have included here, an excerpt from my Boro 1 workshop. I started patching this quilt back then. Already opening to new ways.

I will be adding a mending section to FEEL FREE. But I am going to switch the format first so let's look forward to a new FEEL FREE with the New Year. Mending is always a good way to finish a year. And begin another.

Stars

Star Block 1 (from the Cat Quilt which at this point I think needs a new name.)

They were all supposed to be the same. But it didn't happen that way.

Ten years ago. Before Spirit Cloth. Remembering.

The indigo here, collected over the years.

Some samples of cloth designed while working in the textile industry.

Some from old clothing. Some, from grandma's scrap.

Before considering the possibility of dyeing.

Before that became so popular.

Each one was so precious. Held story.

About ten years ago, or maybe a bit more, I think that is around the first time I used the note to self: scraps of self. Notes to self. Scraps of self. Not much difference really.

The quilt needs repair. Instead of restoring it with re-patch, I will mend it with stars.

As Winter Approaches.

Old sky needed a bit of help this morning.

It's been grey. Like November, here, becomes.

Two little things on the wall became one. Which is good. I ran out of room.

A seasoned stray knows winter (here) well. She knows that she, herself, might be the path through it. That she can be that. Do that. Pull those scraps of self together and make something useful.

I'll be on the road for a while.

The walls are covered in cloth

8:45AM.

And still there is more to be unrolled.

There will be lots of fireside stitching this winter.

One by one. Stitched, explained, let go. Before I forget what I was thinking.

After a while, as memory weakens, well memory might become more like imagination. That's ok too. If you let yourself think about it like that. How it might have gone.

For me, a wishing star is still a wishing star no matter how it came to be. Or how it might go. That's the thing about wishing. It is dream catching. And dreams are liquid. Row row row your boat...

  So far, one wall, almost. And every one contains a SunMoonStar story.

I feel thankful for Path.

And I love that the word path is so close to patch.

7:41 AM after confusing my coffee wth the paint water. How many times have I done that?

Brown. I did imagine this tree before. But now as a kind of thread.

So there it is. Should I weave it in? Brown?

A few minutes later.

I'm unplugging.

Drawing from cloth. Noting how the vertical turned, becomes landscape like in it's horizontal form. But here, the already landscape becomes another landscape. The points like arrows point to the moon.
