Slow Fall. Free Fall.

Still warm but cold coming.

I hope so because this place has come to depend on it.

My main objective this week is to get everything downstairs. Empty the lofts.  Ready to roll out the door. We negotiated 30 days to get out after closing, which makes it all softer.  I will leave the houseplants that my son doesn't take.  His place is already like botanical gardens. There is not enough light in the new place. Yet.

And hey ragmates, there is new content added to the last post (puzzle blocks) at Small Cloth. We'll move on now, from puzzle pieces to loose patches, but hey, they are all the same really, depends on your frame of mind. 

Try to see though it

It all becomes golden

and caught in becoming.

Our last autumn here. We will be gone before winter.

I'm cleaning a few of the small carpets. This is the cloth pic for today.

It's still mighty warm for almost October. I saw walnuts on the ground on the way back from the market. Might be time for one more round.  Use up the pom skins in the freezer.  I anticipate some yellow earth cloth as a result.  I will name my new blog The Spirit Cloth Diaries.  But more about that later.

Yes, it's almost October.  Patchwork in Perspective will run through the end of the next month.  Then Space. Then something else. 

I'm off to gather walnuts then.  And to gather a bit of wood.  I think we can get away with stacking windfall here this season.

Remedy

Still Packing.

At first just packing, to be ready.

Now, more focused. What's needed?

This jar on the mantle, from the 70s. I used an illustration for a label. It used to be a container for an herb concoction. I was almost obsessed with herbal remedies back then. The contents were always different, and as time passed, never labeled. The only thing it says is TRY THIS.

And yes, there are even tack holes on the mantle. I actually heard the buyer exclaim that, with some sort of joy. That's actually why , even though there was already a reasonable offer on this place, I decided to accept theirs and wait for what seemed like an eternity for them to pull their act together. 

The quilt I am mending has a lot more needed work than imagined. Here is a wishing star that has seen better days, and even though it is falling apart, it can be repaired to look like new. Still, I like how what's almost not there still gives it form.  It's almost whispering "...try this, it might be good enough..."

And yes, we found a place.  It's not what we dreamed of, but it will do.

The day is perfect. The perfect September day.

Vision

I'm mending this quilt again, so I can wash it and pack it.

I never did finish the eyes on some of the cat blocks.

Again I am reminded that I need new eyes.

And the older less "art" driven cloths are my favorites.

Because they were just blankets.

Joy is a simple thing.

a different September

Some things seem the same.

The usual change has become apparent.

Today though I thought, how warm the scene becomes as the cooling takes hold. 

Then actually, it is a really warm September.  Looks like that might continue right into October.

We are packing slowly. And mostly deciding what not to bring. Giving it away. And I've been filling empty space with clippings of warm autumn over growth.  Just to sit with it, sleep with it. 

I'm trying to remain open to change

 

 

Time as an Exchange

The house is filled with cricket song. 

A long wet summer. They come in now, whenever I open any door. To find warm places to sing.  I must have put at least 25 back outside. Mom always told me they were good luck, so I hold that thought and train myself to sleep despite their all night chorus.

The tangle of change is upon us. But really, there is so much order in it.

This summer I noted a change in Soul-o. He is slower, older, closer. Closer still , to me, and no other.

And these are the beautiful buyers of my current home. I took this pic back in July. When they asked to come back to see the house again. His family is from Argentina, she grew up around here. (Mom was visiting from Florida) They are simple straightforward folk.  I am happy to know they will be the keepers of this place. They will bring joy. This part of all this has kept me grounded.

Because I found Time

Just a bit of stitching between things to do.

Small Cloth can be handy.

Looking at one side and then the other. While thinking about how little we might really know about each other.

And then finding a way to look at both sides together.

Loving it. How it seems like the real picture.

Sometimes

Sometimes you think you are just over your head.

But then, when you stand back, put it in perspective, you realize it is just a frame of mind.

Feel Free went wacky again. Yesterday, later in the day.

A software update wiped out all my audio fixes and put the cute little audio player back but in the wrong places. I had a small meltdown. None of you have ever experienced those. (that might make an interesting audio)

The man says they are not pretty.

I made a late day post which expressed a bit of hopelessness. I deleted it.

I stayed up all night to patch it up. To prove myself wrong.  

She patched another hole, and so it goes.

You make a promise, you do your best to keep it.
