No Scrap left behind

It is how it might go.

Form might emerge by considering second chances. In this way it becomes the shape of kindness. Patchwork was born of that. The intention to rescue and the beauty in that.

Leftovers from yesterday's divided circles. And somehow I am back to feathers. Which works for I shall reconsider wings in September. A segment from an old diary series, many thoughts never quite completed. I hope you might join me.

I've a few houses to complete before then.  And a few end of the summer chores.

These can also be leaves. Like the ones falling from the Dogwood already. Falling leave are a lot like feathers. Tree feathers. With all the rain, this will be a big tree feather year.

Simple Little Things

Caught in little things.

Today, time off from "fixer-uppering". Was going to paint the porch ceiling but I'm exhausted.

It might look like I am doing the same thing over and over but I am evaluating a new free seaming technique. All these loose patches are coming in handy for that. Building is on my mind anyway. And I will share my thoughts soon. Little houses have me thinking of worlds. How the reach we have becomes that.

I found a whole world in a tin pail this morning.

It seems like it is still autumn there.

This is the tiniest bluejay feather I have ever found. The gridded shadow of the screen has made it into patchwork. That makes me smile.

I like to curl up like this.

And then s t r  e  t  c  h  out.

It's good exercise.

These ribbons of feathers will  act as ties for the large cloth we call Home.  And then who knows? I've enjoyed this final process.  Making strings of feathers.  Dreaming into them. Imagining them as representing the PieceMakers, hand to hand, reaching from here to there. Standing for hope and kindness. Ties that bind.  Strong and useful. And then light as dreams. Blowing in the wind.

I have spoken to Wendy. I will send the cloth on Solstice. She will wait for it. Welcome it. It was a warm talk, this one. Filled with knowing each other better. She brings out the love in me which sometimes gets clouded by all the crap that makes up a life.

But I guess that is just what she is good at.

Her gift.

I've been working hard to pull the story of this cloth together in some cohesive way. No small task, this was one big journey. Tangled up in a life.

Stitching a String of Feathers

 

And yes there is still stitching.

Maybe I have slowed down even more, just to make it last.

I am lining the streaming with silk. The gentle pull of the stitches forms a soft curve. I feel like these long narrow cloths are like the old skin shed from the serpent of days.
