And it stopped raining

The wood is dry and good.   Especially when sleepy and actually always,  placing a good piece of dry wood  over the right coals, in just the right place is vital for a good fire to continue without interruption.  One of the best  buys we made last year was a pair of good gloves.

Not Fireplace gloves, Welder's gloves.  Put your hand right in the fire and get it right.  The right tool for the job.  The Man's idea.   Very cheap at Home Depot.  Better than the fancy pricey alternative.

There is an art to building a good fire.  I am working at that.

10:32 AM. There has been a sewing chair takeover. And I feel better.

Considering pattern

 

How pattern is repetition.  How pattern might map growth.

How growth might make pattern less static. Yet still rhythmic.

But then, how growth might undo pattern.  The expected kind. Because of the unexpected. How that might happen, fit in, form another sort of pattern.

How we have a personal pattern.  How pattern  can change with context (point of view) or distance.

How pattern contains a sense of going.

All these things.

Colder in April

Chilly. Bleak.  But the dandelions provide some sunshine on this cloudy day.  And salad.  We'll need the fire in that room  today. Probably all day. And night with a possible freeze.  I was out early gathering kindling and dry wood before the expected shower.  We still have have a wood pile but  in this early spring I gather windfall instead, and fire building becomes yard clean up at the same time.

Found this piece of wood with a hole in the middle. The hole was quite useful.  It sort of acted like its own chimney stove. Placed over some smoldering twigs and paper it created a column of flame and the morning fire was a breeze.

So here I am.  Coffee.  No luck giving that up. Stitching on the Soul-o nine lives patch, thinking about safe and warm. I think I will call it that.  This little thing. Safe and Warm.  The man sleeps late. I am planning some flat bread making.  Maybe in a pan.  And some doodling.

Grateful that all seems well with Typepad today.

It's just a day.  Still, another day, not like any other.

Wood and Line

Found this at the bottom of the woodpile. I probably saw it before, but my focus on the basket has given new  reason to notice it. And now a reason to miss it because the man burned it last night to keep us warm.  It is good to take a photo when something impresses you.

I've been fiddling with an old collage from some time back.  Just thinking about deriving some new line ideas from wood.  Just considering that.  Perhaps combining that with the basket  idea.  But really  a lot more doodles will come first. The center here was pasted in,  drawn with the finger on the screen again.  i still feel the line has a human touch not realized when using another line drawing tool. It intrigues me. Sort of between digital and human.

So. The wood part.  That has to do with my son.   Who has agreed to build a loom (!) according to my drawn plans.  How nice is that?  But then it has to do with wood scrap.  His scraps of self.  And mine. 

How sweet it is.  On this day  when this little square-ish scrap reminds me of my basket self. And little things often overlooked become useful.

The camp ground has been put in order.  Actually, just stopped worrying about it.

And I really like this. Which a friend kindly shared today.
