Thinking about the woven base....What if the backing was patterned and the there were spaces between the weaving elements?
...I
had to baste this one all over because the spaces made it quite
loose. But I like it and I suppose it might be a nice window piece
with the light coming through the thin space. The base on this one is
a very light weight printed cotton lawn. I did the weaving with some
silk, composted cotton sheeting and some old linen.
What if I fill in the spaces?
..I am liking the little dots that show up when there is a small space left and there is contrast with the backing. I asked myself what if you could make patterns with those dots by covering some of them back up? But then I stopped to consider stuffing some little pieces of colored silk in those little holes. Yes, what if I do that? It is best to tack those little pieces with an invisible stitch or 2 so they stay in place for now.
Seems like there is a lot that could be done with this idea. What if the spaces were much larger? And by adding little pieces of color you can use up tiny scraps and also even out the thickness left by the holes.
