fabulous silk megamendung form java. unusual color combos on beautiful mat silk. hand batik, i can smell the wax. an odd selection of different sized pieces. hard to find... some small stains, but in good condition. this silk tears beautifully. i like that since i use a lot of ragged edge in my work. easy to stitch...
this traditional pattern is called megamendung....storm clouds. i call it magic clouds
large piece of ikat, with integrated contrast filling band woven border woven on the ends of the actual piece covering the surface completely. border pulls the piece in to a narrower width on the ends. hand woven. ikat show 3 different shades of indigo. 65" x 36". aquired during travel.

The god indra then taught the girls and women the
art of making double ikat cloths. these fabrics are used in ceremony
and are wrapped around the body to actively shield a human being from
threats during rites of passage, when a person undergoes a critical
transition from one phase of life to the next.
