.....
of course this is just a computer collage but i couldn't help but ask what if i cut up the skitched skatchwork and pieced it back together? continued from what if # 122.
i always design stuff on point paper. especially patchwork. but with a more direct method in mind i asked myself what if(?) i use the natural grid of a yarn dyed plaid to provide the guidelines of a patchwork sketch. a sketch for a skatch. seems a very direct method indeed.
.....i have started to applique the design. and i like it. a lot.
so what if i continue from here... and use letters as the edge?
....i folded the edge of the fabric over so there are 2 layers to work on. it makes it more stable. letters are drawn with permanent marker and then the edge is snipped and bound eyelet style to follow the negative space.
...and then of course i couldn't help but ask what if(?) i make the spaces in the letters eyelets, what an edge that would be. oh yeah....i'm not finished yet.
hey. the holidays are upon us and everyone is obviously very busy. i dropped out of all outside challenges with deadlines and rules. i was enjoying sharon b's challenge but i realized what if could be reread whaTIF anyway....so i will stick to challenging myself for now. i have been thinking....what if i open up the CQR group and just make it general what iffing? there is a new group over here.....join up if you like and ask what if and let's share what we learn. i will be making some changes to this site over the holidays to fit to my new idea.
in the mean time....this project continued from here and here ...just because i asked what if i finish up all my loose ends before the end of the year?
.....i have experimented with cut out frames before but in a more random fashion. for instance here and here. but today i thought what if i use that plaid graph paper idea for holes. they become much more like windows when you follow the grid.
.....i also wondered what if i use that double cloth i have with the check on one side. this idea added other advantages. it is 2 sided so i can use it either way. it is double layered so the frame will have some loft. it is double woven being consistently tacked together in a grid of woven stitches which give the frame stability against curving and i also love the tiny dots that actually quilt the fabric together. i like them visually and i am thinking about them structurally for another what if.
