what if #26: crayon rubbing

Sunflower_inspiration this little brass top, that inspiration for sunflower design, was so kindly turned in to a what if by the inspiring Uschi at Papierwelt  .

and this morning i woke to the idea if exploring the print idea that she suggested, by using crayon rubbing. i certainly wanted to protect this heirloom from harm .

Crayon_rubbing...and so i stretched fabric tightly over the top and rubbed the flat end of a black crayon over the surface. and then i added a bit of orange. delightful results. i will try a few more.
to be continued....and now part of sunflower corner.

what if #114: crayon and stencil

Crayon_stenciling ....i've used crayon staining before. and i am investigating it some more with stenciling. what if i use a stencil? that's all. still working with the trees.

regular black crayon on linen/cotton twill. freezer paper stencil. when you iron on the stencil, use the crayon while the fabric is still hot. it melts in and stains better. iron between paper towels or paper to remove wax, then iron again. withstands washing with minimal color loss. some colors stain better than others.

# 160: Reverse collage applique

Collage in a star

I have been thinking a lot about positive negative lately and building an image in reverse and so today after playing with the idea of a reverse applique star,  I thought what if the reverse applique was placed over some crazy collage to give the image more interest. Random scraps and fussy cuts arranged on a backing and then covered with a star cut out.  And what if I add some dimension to the mask with crayon. regular crayon, scribble on and ironed into the fabric, between the pieces of brown paper to absorb the wax. I have done that before.   It fades slightly with washing but works fine for shadowing.
Crazy reverse quilting?   Shall i try this with dots?   I think so.
